Marketing Sligo Forum was established in 1998 as a sectoral support project to drive the marketing and capacity development of tourism in the county. The organisation acts as the lead instigator of marketing initiatives for the county and seeks to build strength into County Sligo’s tourism product offering through providing leverage supports to secure funding for priority projects. In 2010 an Independent review of Marketing Sligo Forum was undertaken to address the Forum’s role, structure and operations. Taking the consultation research and recommendations on board the Forum has adopted the progression options going forward.

From a governance and best practice perspective, the Forum going forward will have a formal structure namely: Sligo Tourism Limited. It’s Mission Statement: ‘actively promote Sligo at all levels, in order to achieve a positive and effective impact on economic, social and cultural development in the county’. It has a clear and realistic set of objections to instigate on a short, medium and long term timeline.

The Sligo Tourism Ltd (Board) comprises a Chairperson and 17 Board of Directors.

The Board meets eight times every year and is supported in its work by a number of committees.

Marketing Tools

  • Responsible for the production of the County Sligo generic tourism guide
  • Operates the consumer website www.sligotourism.ie, which features comprehensive information and listings for Sligo accommodation, activities, events, tourist attractions and special offers and is supported by a comprehensive home holiday media campaign
  • Manages and operates business dedicated conference website for Sligo
  • Responsible for the production of the Sligo Tourism multilingual DVD
  • Produces the only county specific Festivals and Events guide
  • Developed the first TV advertisement for Sligo

The organisation has three directorates:

  • Strategic Development: Developing Sligo as a prime tourist destination through building strengths into the Sligo’s tourism offering though providing leverage supports to secure funding for priority projects.
  • Market Development: Developing Sligo as a high quality tourism destination through our Island of Ireland marketing campaigns, on-line overseas promotions, familiarisation trips, business tourism, and cultural events.
  • Enterprise Development: Working with the providers and key stakeholders to develop and provide a wide range of business supports and advice to develop tourism for the future in the count.
