CHORUS IRELAND, David Brophy's National Scratch Choir comes to Sligo 21 - 23 April 2017
CHORUS IRELAND, David Brophy's National Scratch Choir, offers people from across Ireland the possibility of coming together over the space of a weekend with Ireland's leading conductor, David Brophy, to rehearse and publicly perform of some of the greatest choral works, together with professional orchestra SINFONIA IRELAND and some of Ireland's best young soloists.
After a hugely successful inaugural weekend in Kilkenny in January, CHORUS IRELAND has programmed another residential weekend in Sligo from 21 - 23 April. Singers will come together on the Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday morning in the Presbyterian Church to rehearse Fauré's stunning Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine and Duruflé's lesser-known but equally gorgeous Requiem. On the Sunday afternoon the choir will rehearse with professional orchestra SINFONIA IRELAND. These players are hand-picked by David from Ireland's top professional orchestras ad this is a fantastic opportunity for amateur singers to perform with these musicians. The weekend will culminate with a public performance in St John's Cathedral at 7pm, where family, friends and the general public are invited to attend the concert. Tickets for this are €10 and can be bought on the day.
The feedback from our Kilkenny CHORUS IRELAND weekend was incredible - the singers were enthralled by their time working with David. His energy and enthusiasm are legendary! The weekend is open to all - seasoned choral singers and beginners alike. Obviously it helps if singers can read music and David encourages participants to prepare in advance, 48 hours is not a long time to put together a performance!
The cost to participate is €265 or €480 for a couple. Group rates are available too. The cost covers teas, coffees, lunch on Saturday and hot refreshments before the performance on the Sunday. Full details, testimonials and videos are available on www.chorusireland.ie
