The Sligo Camino – Do it the Sligo Way in 2016!
Hundreds of hill-walkers will converge on Co. Sligo this July for the 3nd annual Sligo Camino.
Last year over 200 walkers from 17 counties had a fantastic day, making the Camino one of Sligo’s largest walking events.
On Saturday July 2nd, those up for the challenge will hike 34km from Dromahair, Co. Leitrim to Coolaney, Co. Sligo along the scenic Sligo Way route.
After preparing themselves in training, walkers will follow mountain paths, country lanes, forest tracks and trails to explore the beautiful, unspoilt scenery of the “Land of Heart’s Desire”.
Highlights along the Saturday route include:
Creevelea Abbey, on the banks of the River Bonet; Lough Gill and Slish Wood; Yeats’ Lake Isle of Inishfree and Slieve Daeane with its secret mountain lake, Lough Lumman.
This event is a must for those wishing to combine a physical challenge with inspirational scenery and uplifting company.
Places on the Sligo Camino are limited and likely to sell out again this year. Participants must register in advance through www.sligocamino.ie
or the “Sligo Camino” Facebook
page. The fee includes bus transfers, refreshments along the way and a hot buffet reception at the end of a most satisfying day.
