Members of the public are invited to make their mark with the Textile Collective’s exhibition “Vivid Cloths”, an innovative mixed media exhibition celebrating in part the 150th anniversary of the birth of W.B. Yeats.
“Vivid Cloths” -a textile art showcase, will run at Teach Bán Gallery, Drumcliffe, Sligo, from June 5th to June 26th. During the exhibition visitors to Teach Bán Gallery, are invited to bring their creative flair to “The Cloths of Heaven” through the medium of stitching, weaving, painting, drawing, collage and more. Each visitor focuses on their interpretation of Yeats poem of the same name, creating a community crafted cloth that will be displayed in a public gallery for all to view and appreciate.
The Lily Lolly Craftfest, which is a craft festival running from June 13th-22nd in Sligo and celebrates the work of Lily and Lolly Yeats the only sisters of W.B Yeats. “Vivid Cloths” exhibition will showcase original Textile Art inspired by the life and works of the Yeats family and combines elements of the two events. The exhibition title “Vivid Cloths” is inspired by vivid colours, fibres and textures and Yeats poem “The Cloths of Heaven”.
This exhibition has been created by the Textile Collective, a group of like minded textile artists and designers who are enthusiastic about promoting the Textile Arts through workshops and exhibitions. Its members are Alison Hunter, Geraldine Beirne, Audrey Stanley, Jeanette Gilmartin, Mary Cronin, Liz Sheridan, Margaret Jackson. The exhibition will be officially opened by Mary McDonagh, Sligo Public Art Officer. Teach Bán Gallery is conveniently located beside Drumcliffe Church and W.B. Yeats final resting place. “Vivid Cloths” officially opens on June 5th at 6.30pm with refreshments and live music by Jazz duo, Jim and Eddie. This exhibition will also feature on Irish TV’s programme Sligo Matters which will be aired in the coming months and is part of the events on this years Lily Lolly Craftfest programme.
