May Bank Holiday Weekend

Friday May 3 – Monday May 6, 2019

Visit Sligo this May Bank Holiday Weekend to celebrate the 20th Sligo International Chamber Music Festival. The Festival has announced a very ambitious programme and the return of a large number of festival favourites – both musicians and music.

Taking place in St Columba’s Church Drumcliffe and The Model Sligo over the May bank holiday weekend, Sligo International Chamber Music Festival is one of Ireland’s leading chamber music events. Under Artistic Director Tim Vogler, the festival offers its loyal audience and new visitors alike, the opportunity to experience high standards of programming through a fresh choice of artists performing alongside internationally acclaimed ensemble-in-residence, the Vogler Quartet.

To celebrate the festival’s 20th year, a number of artists return to  perform again alongside the Vogler Quartet including Eugène Mursky Piano (Ukraine), David Orlowsky Clarinet (Germany), Michael McHale Piano (Ireland), Bruno Schneider French Horn (Switzerland), Dermot Dunne Accordion (Ireland), Malachy Robinson Double Bass (Ireland). They will be joined by leading musicians Grieg Grio (Norway), Sharon Carty Mezzo Soprano (Ireland), Vashti Hunter Cello (UK), Hendrik Rabien Bassoon (Germany).

The 20th year also sees two very special events:

The premiere of Nick Roth’s Second Quintet for String Quartet & Accordion commissioned by Sligo International Chamber Music Festival, funded by Sligo County Council’s Creative Ireland Programme 2018-2022.

And an event of music, poetry and art, with Gerard Smyth to honour the late Seán McSweeney, a great friend of the Festival since the festival first emerged in 2000.

The festival features the successful Tuned In! youth programme co-funded by the Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership, in association with Music Generation Sligo. This unique and innovative programme is curated by Professor James Cavanagh from the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

Festival Season tickets and Day Saver tickets will be on offer to save and savour the full weekend – the ambience of Drumcliffe, the contemporary environment of The Model and the restaurants, shops, beaches and walks of Sligo.

Box Office opens 1st March at www.sligochambermusic.ie or by phone +353 (71) 916 1518.
