Trad Softly – a guided walking tour around Sligo town talking about W.B. Yeats, his fascinating life, and his interesting family. Topics covered range from his career as a poet & playwright, to his love for Sligo, his lifelong interest in mysticism and magic, and his interesting and chequered love-life. Jack B. Yeats is also discussed, as well as Lily & Lolly.
The tour begins with the story of the Pollexfens in Sligo, leading on to how John Butler Yeats met Susan Pollexfen, and then on to the children, always with particular reference to their fondness of Sligo.
The tour is approximately 90 minutes long, and from 3.5 to 4km in distance; this can be adjusted depending on the group’s wishes and abilities.
Some live traditional Irish music is included, played on the tin whistle, as well as some excerpts from W.B. Yeats’ poems. Yeats statue, and the Yeats Memorial Building.
